Looking Ahead

Within the next five years Sharif would like to purchase 1-4 acres of land within five kilometers of Bagamoyo town. He would like to be able to house fifty children permanently and provide for an additional forty during the day. There would be a drop-in center for children deemed "at-risk". Sharif would like to have a school on the premises, which would eliminate the problem of paying school-fees. He'd ideally employ a nurse, a social worker, two teachers, a cook, a security guard, and a female overnight worker.

Unfortunately, land is expensive. Imuma has a few money-making ventures to support the program, such as renting out their brick-making machine and selling artwork and bracelets made my the kids, but there is no venue for displaying these items. Sharif has been able to purchase 3.5 acres of farmland seventeen kilometers from town with a $5000 donation. He has not yet been able to clear the land, but plans to plant cassava during the rainy season, which will be used to feed the children. Sharif fears that if he cannot hire a security guard, which costs $7 per month, people will steal the crops meant for the children.

If Imuma is able to meet these goals, they will be better able to provide a stable environment for the at-risk children in Bagamoyo and create better opportunities for the children.
